Leo Blokhuis a gogo?

New Weird Al Yankovic cd

FAZED - Trip Report:

Weird Al Yankovic - Straight Outta Lynwood

Disc 1 (cd)

1. White and Nerdy - Parody of Rollin by Chamillionare

I think just about everyone has seen the video for this song, being as Al linked it on his MySpace and posted it on YouTube himself (which makes it even funnier that the RIAA took it down). Excellent style sequel to All About the Pentiums when it comes to a geek rap.

--> 2. Pancreas - Brian Wilson Style Parody <--

Quite possibly the best work that Al has ever done. Song completely blows me away with the style references to Brian Wilson's work during his solo career and with the Beach Boys.

3. Canadian Idiot - Parody of American Idiot by Green Day

Probably the weakest track on the album, but that it's saying much. Contains about every stereotype about Canadians ever. First track that made me laugh out loud on the entire album, but it has little staying power and isn't as comedically layerd as most of his songs are.

4. I'll Sue Ya - Style Parody of Rage Against the Machine

Hated this track at first, mostly because I really don't like RATMs style of music. He does an excllent job imitating both the lyrical delivery and musical style of RATM, and picturing him singing with the same screaming intensity is extrememly laugh-inducing.

5. Polkarama

2nd best polka he's ever done imho, behind Angry White Boy Polka. Having "Candy Shop" and "Drop It Like It's Hot" done to polka music gets me every time.

6. Virus Alert - Style Parody of Styx and/or Rush

Song would make an awesome chain letter. Awesome guitar and synth work, and the bassline throughout the song is amazing.

7. Confessions Part III - Parody of Confessions Part II by Usher

Never heard the original on this one, but the style on it seems right for what I've heard of Usher's other songs, as well as the genre in general. Plays off the ridiculousness of a "Part II" song with multiple references to forgeting things in Part II and having to make a Part III.

8. Weasel Stomping Day - Style Parody of cartoon Christmas songs and/or Disney songs

Silliest track on the album by far, mostly due to the squishing sound effects.

9. Close But No Cigar - Style Parody of Cake

Guitar riffs and most of the drum work do a great job of emulating Cake's style, but the bassline and trumpet are really where this one shines. Also has a few lifts from Cake's lyrical style, like the "awwww yea, oh no, all right!"

10. Do I Creep You Out - Parody of Do I Make You Proud by Taylor Hicks

I've never heard the original of this, so I can't say much about it, but it's pretty awesome.

11. Trapped In The Drive Thru - Parody of Trapped In The Closet by R. Kelly

If I weren't so blown away by the Brian Wilson tribute, this would be my favorite track by far. It's hard to do a parody of a song that's so ridiculous that it's almost a parody itself, but he pulls it off wonderfully. 12 minutes about absolutely nothing at all, and all of it amazing. Also has a sample of Black Dog by Zeppelin

12. Don't Download This Song

The most catchy song on the album, and the only thing style-wise I can pin it with is "We Are The World", but it doesn't seem quite right. Pokes fun at the crazy lengths the RIAA has gone to pursue filesharing.

Disc: 2 (dvd)
1. Don’t Download This Song
2. I’ll Sue Ya
3. Virus Alert
4. Close But No Cigar
5. Pancreas
6. Weasel Stomping Day
